7 Things I’ve Learned About Human Nature Since Opening My Yoga Studio
People are nice, male egos are fragile, and free stuff is meaningless.
Two weeks ago, I opened a yoga studio in Carcavelos, Portugal. It is my first brick-and-mortar venture. You may think thatit’s too early to be sharing my profound insights, but I’ve actually been working on this business for well over a year. In Portugal, you see, things take a really really long time. God bless this land, but it’s been quite the journey.
So what have I learned?
Everything seems to center around human nature. My favorite book is The Laws of Human Nature by Robert Greene and in a way, this has been like my version of immersive learning.
Something as seemingly one-dimensional as a yoga studio offers an abundance of insights into the quirks of humans. And as a owner, I’ve had to quickly learn how to navigate these to give everyone a good experience.
My studio is called The Contrast Club and it’s more of a wellness space than specifically “yoga studio” – we offer heated and non-heated yoga and movement classes, incorporating strength training, pilates, breathwork, sauna, and cold plunges and we have a healthy cafe offering functional drinks and specialty coffee.
